In the past donations by this group have been made for services & equipment to benefit breast cancer patients. These have included TV’s for use on the old hospital wards, DVD’s etc.
Currently we are working to join other cancer groups so we can have a dedicated centre where people can meet other sufferers at anytime of day to share experiences, hot drinks & ideas.
We have also collected money & donated some toward the acquisition of a specialized radiotherapy machine which is advantageous for all cancers in the chest & upper back regions of the body as it only delivers its rays when the person’s breathing is calculated into the machine thereby targeting the tumour precisely between breaths.
We have attended events where money is raised for breast cancer projects by our members who are also members of other groups.
Members of staff from the Robert Horrell Macmillan Centre have recently launched a lymphoedema support group.
Skincare and Make-up Workshops to Support Women with Cancer are Launched.
Women undergoing treatment for cancer are being given the opportunity to attend a free 'Look Good Feel Better' workshop at the Robert Horrell Centre.
We presented Val with a rather fine Dahlia plant for her lovely garden, as a thank you for all her hard work on the annual Strawberry Tea event.
It was a great success and we all enjoyed ourselves and the weather had been perfect. Val said £423.00 had been raised for group funds and we will be pleased to know that all the Tombola prizes had been sold so we will not have to have the remainder as Christmas presents this year.
She had been looking at ‘party tents’ because currently her son has been loaning his gazebo for the Strawberry Tea. Val thought it might be a better idea to buy one of our own which we could then use for other events or even rent it out. The down side was that storage could be a problem and size might mean it would not be easy to transport by car.
A great evening was had by all at Beales fashion show.
The tickets were just £3 and the turnout was large. The outfits were modelled perfectly by all with some lovely ideas on what to wear from Dash, Ecco, Brantano, Eastex, Kaliko and many more. We had the shop to ourselves to browse and select any garmets of which there is currently a sale on with up to 70% Off. There were also Hand massages, makeup advice, style and colour advice and even some handbags were given away in the raffle.
Can't wait to do it again. Well update you on how much money was raised onced everything is finalised. For photos of the evening please see our Facebook page.
Afternoon Tea with Vanessa Phelps
Margaret and Jaysee had been invited to afternoon tea at the Wellesley hotel and had an enjoyable time.
Vanessa Phelps was also there and had donated the £150.00 she had won to Breast Cancer.
Denise reminded us that our main fundraising efforts for this year will go towards the X-ray Department's Linac Gating Appeal for chest and lung cancer’s. At present patients have to travel out of the area for treatment.
The PBCSG leaflet which goes into the Breast Care Unit’s new patient pack has been revised and updated.
The design, formatting and setting up the leaflet has been provided by Susan from Blue Monkey and the printering has been donated by the printers that Carole works for.
We are very fortunate to have the goodwill of these local businesses and are grateful for both their help and support.
