Casting for Recovery Mauricette told us about her trip to the Lake District to learn fly fishing as a means of recovering from Breast Cancer.
Casting for recovery is supported by the Countryside Alliance who run 6 sessions a year and provide the accommodation, food, equipment, clothing and one to one tuition.
All she had had to do was travel to the venue and take her own wellingtons. She had stayed at the 4 star Conniston Hotel from Friday to Sunday. After arriving time was made to get to know the other 14 participants, organisers and instructors over drinks and made to feel really comfortable.
On Saturday they learnt to cast prior to going to the lake and make their own lures and by then had made a few friendships.
On the Sunday they were all allocated fishermen and went onto the lake. There was an open marquee and portaloos set out and everything was very well organised for them.
Three women did catch trout and everyone thought they had been treated like royalty. She would highly recommend others to go.
