Thank you for all those who attended our September meeting.

Laura and Katie joined us tonight to talk about the 100km trek they did in the Brecon Beacons for the Charity CoppaFeel! Laura wanted to raise money for the charity as her best friend Ashley (who also joined our meeting) has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Katie did the walk for her late husband who died of breast cancer. CoppaFeel! is a breast cancer awareness charity based in London focused on promoting early detection of breast cancer by encouraging women under 30 to regularly check their breasts.

Laura and Katie said the walk was pretty gruelling. 120 people were shortlisted out of 4,000 entries. The group was headed up by Giovanni Fletcher who heads up every trek. Laura explained there was plenty of training to get trek fit. Given that Cambridgeshire is probably the flattest county in the UK she had to go further afield to find some hills / mountains, training for six months. The walk took place over 5 days starting with a tough first stage of 19.1km across Dragon’s Back. They walked on average 11 hours a day in all sorts of weather from sunshine to torrential rain carrying their camping gear. The atmosphere and camaraderie amongst the group was amazing.

For anyone who would like to participate there are treks held every year and other fund-raising events. Visit the charity website coppafeel.org.

Burghley Park Picnic 31st August 2024
We had a lovely afternoon in Burghley Park with members of the Stamford Cancer Support Group. Despite the windy weather we had a very relaxing time, meeting some lovely people from the Stamford Group. A thank you to Joan from the Stamford Group for coming along with her fellow members and for those who joined us from Peterborough.

The Xmas Market
The next fund raising event and to highlight the services of the Support Group in Peterborough will be the Xmas market stall. The date now booked is the 12 December 2024. The plan is to have a tombola as well as information about the Group to hand out e.g. our leaflets. This will be an all-day event so again anyone who can come along and help on the day please let me know. As December will soon be upon us we need donations for the tombola so can you please bring any items to the October and November meetings.

Xmas Meal – 5th December 2024 at the Bluebell Pub Werrington 7.00 pm.
We will need your menu choices in advance of the meal. Those attending should be in the Xmas Meal What’s App Group so please message your choices there. We are looking at 20 places and then a reserve list. The pub have not priced up the meal yet, but it is hoped the Group funds will cover the cost of the meal for those attending. Drinks will need to be paid for separately.
