Admin: Hello members.
Thank you to all those who attended the meeting and a warm welcome to those new members who joined us. We were due to hear from Lisa-Marie Butler from Breathes Pilates however due to cross wires she will now be attending our November meeting. Please see below an extract from her website. Lisa-Marie is also a post rehabilitative breast cancer exercise specialist. Her presentation will be a mix of talking/and gentle exercises.
New Members: As is the custom when we have new members the meeting involved members introducing themselves and sharing their experience of breast cancer, from diagnosis through to treatment and moving on when treatment has stopped. It is also so interesting listening to people’s stories and the new treatment methods, as a fair few in the group had their diagnosis and subsequent treatment many years ago.
Breast Care Nurses: We will be joined by the Breast Care nurses at our October meeting so please do have any questions ready for them or email them to me and I will send them on.
Eloise Lingerie: Following on from our guest speaker Catherine Curtiss’ talk in July several members had a day trip to their premises in Milton Keynes. The whole day was very enjoyable. The staff at Eloise were amazing. It really was a bespoke shopping experience as we each measured and fitted with some lovely bras as well as other items of clothing they had on sale. I would certainly recommend a visit to their shop especially as there are limited options in Peterborough. They do sell prostheses but remember you can get replacements free from the hospital every 3 years. They are expensive to buy so it is worth getting them from the NHS. Below are some photos of the day showing the happy shoppers. We had a lovely lunch and walk afterwards. If anyone else in the Group would like to go let me know and we can arrange another group visit.
Committee: I am putting out a call for committee members. Currently our “committee” consists of me, Helen, and one other member who kindly stepped up to be Secretary. Another member has kindly agreed to help out with ideas for charity raising events and to raise the profile of the Group. The Group is first and foremost a support group and we are there to support each other and to share our highs and lows in a safe and supportive environment. We also want the Group to grow and it also needs to be self-financing. I know past members of the Group have organised amazing charity events to raise money for the Group and Peterborough Hospital, so if anyone is interested in joining as a committee member please let me know. It won’t be an onerous role.
Monthly Fees: I am afraid the monthly subscription for the room and drinks is going up to £3 from next month. The Holiday Inn put their prices up, so we must do likewise.
Future Meetings:
- We have our Breast Care Nurses attending in our October Meeting.
- For our November meeting Lisa-Marie Butler to join us. She is a Pilates teacher. She does a specific Breast Cancer Recovery Programme to help with such things as lymphedema and post-surgery exercises. Her presentation will be a mix of a talk, demonstration, and audience participation – nothing too strenuous and entirely optional.
- December will be our Xmas meal out at the Fox & Hounds, Longthorpe, on the 7th. I will take bookings from our October meeting and circulate the menu.
I look forward to seeing you all in October.
